CEP Program Terms & FAQs

The information below applies to the CEP program through July, 2020. In August, we will be switching to an on-demand, self-paced program. If you are currently working on your certification, please plan on completing any live sessions in July. Otherwise we recommend that you wait and join the new program in August. (The core content is the same.)

Program Terms & Eligibility

What are the certification requirements?

To become certified with CK-12, you need to do the following:

  1. Attend 3 core live sessions
    - CK-12's FlexBook® 2.0 Platform
    - Customizing CK-12 FlexBooks® & Adaptive Practice
    - Strategies for Using CK-12
  2. Watch 2 on-demand sessions
  3. Complete the matching assignments for both the live and on-demand sessions.

If for some reason you can’t make one of the sessions you are registered for, we encourage you to register for a later offering of that session. If you have questions about this process or issues meeting these requirements but still wish to become CK-12 Certified, please email jumpstart@ck12.org.

Can I get credit for previous attendance & work?

Yes. Live attendance for webinars and completion of assignments will be credited for up to 18 months. Work done during that time can be counted toward your application for certification.

What documentation will I receive?

Upon completion of program requirements, CK-12 Certified Educators are issued a certificate and letter documenting their work and the number of hours completed for the program. Many educators use that as documentation of professional development for their school or district. Educators who need documentation of attendance in live webinars before full completion of the program can request that by emailing jumpstart@ck12.org.

Will I need to recertify?

CK-12 Certified Educator certificates are valid for 2 years. To maintain active status, educators can choose from a variety of options for recertification, all of which can be viewed in the alumni portal after initial certification.

Who is eligible to become CK-12 certified?

All educators (and those who work with educators), whether a teacher in a class, a district administrator, a homeschool parent, a teacher-in-training, or someone who trains other teachers, are more than welcome to join us for this program.

What is the cost of the program?

Like all of CK-12’s resources, the program is completely FREE!

How do I register? Is there a deadline?

This program is offered on a continuous basis. You will simply join the CK-12 Class that is active at the time you register. To register for this program during the 2019-2020 school year, you can do so at https://forms.gle/Px6YXuQMGWb3JwT37

Program Logistics

What is Zoom?

Zoom is a platform that provides video conferencing and more. The CK-12 Certified Educator Program uses it to host our webinars. If you have not used this application in the past, click on any login link prior to the actual webinar and it should prompt you to download Zoom. To download directly, you can find options at zoom.us/download.

How do I sign in to a webinar?

The confirmation email you received for each webinar session includes a direct login link for that webinar. If you didn’t receive a confirmation email when you signed up (or multiple ones if you registered for multiple sessions), please email jumpstart@ck12.org, and we can resend that link.

How do I access resources for this program?

All of the program resources are in a Certified Educator Program FlexBook® on our new FlexBook® 2.0 Platform. After you register for the program, we will share links to the current FlexBook® and CEP class.

All About Sessions

How long does each session last & how many hours will it take me to complete the program?

Most of our Certified Educator Program sessions are about an hour in length. If you attend the minimum required sessions and take the time to complete the matching assignments, you will likely be spending approximately 10 hours completing the requirements.

Can I still become a Certified Educator if I can’t attend live sessions?

At this time, we require attendance in live webinars to become CK-12 Certified. However, you are more than welcome to see our recorded webinars at www.ck12.org/webinars if you simply want to expand your knowledge of CK-12’s platform.

Can I attend webinar sessions without completing the full Certified Educator Program?

Yes! You are welcome to register for individual webinar sessions and join us when you are able.

Why are two of the sessions “on demand”?

The first on demand session sets you up for success while in the Certified Educator Program and with using the CK-12 platform. The second on demand session is the culminating session at the end of the program. We think these two sessions are best viewed before and after the live webinar sessions, and we want you to be able to view them on your own schedule.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

All sessions offered are online webinars. There are no in-person sessions. Users are encouraged to join the Jumpstart Forum in the CK-12 Cafe at www.ck12.org/forum/105118/ to connect with other educators. Any questions posted there will also be addressed by CK-12.

What happens if I miss a session?

If you miss a session, feel free to register for a later offering of the same topic. If you are unable to make one, but still wish to see the webinar you missed, you can view archived webinars for each respective topic on our webinars page at www.ck12.org/webinars or at youtube.com/CK12Foundation.

How can I cancel or reschedule a session?

Your reminder emails contain a link for cancellation, and you can always register for new sessions on our registration page. You can also email jumpstart@ck12.org if you need help with cancellations or registrations.

Why don’t some sessions count toward the Certified Educator Program?

In addition to our on demand sessions and three core offerings to learn about the CK-12 Platform, we have created short webinars and recorded videos to address various other topics, including Related Content, Learning Management Systems, etc. Due to the shorter timeframe of these supplemental sessions and lack of matching assignments, these non-core webinars do not count toward the requirement of three live webinars for this program.

Are the webinar sessions recorded?

Certified Educator Program webinars are recorded and posted on our YouTube channel (youtube.com/ck12foundation) within 24 hours. The latest version of any webinar can also be found in the archived section at the bottom of our webinars page.

Program Completion & Benefits

What will I be able to do on CK-12 by the end of this program?

Participants will be able to navigate and use the CK-12 platform to access resources, customize content, assign modalities, utilize interactives, and track student progress. Additionally, they will gain a deeper understanding of how technology can be leveraged to support student learning in a classroom through various teaching strategies and use cases.

Can I get professional development through my district for participating in the program?

CK-12 will gladly provide documentation of your participation in the CK-12 Certified Educator Program. It is up to your school or district regarding how they count this toward any continuing education/professional development requirements.

Will you give me a CK-12 Certified Educator badge for my email signature or website?

Yes! Upon completion of the program, you will receive the CK-12 Certified Educator badge to show off your new status.

Will I receive a certificate of program completion?

Certificates are issued periodically each month. Based on timing of completion of the final form and all program requirements, certificates will be issued within 30 days for anyone meeting all requirements.

How long is my certification valid and how do I recertify?

CK-12 Certified Educator certificates are valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Educators who wish to recertify can do so through a variety of options noted in the Alumni Portal tab — which they will gain access to upon completion of the program.

What is the Alumni Portal?

This tab is available for educators who have become CK-12 Certified. It includes information on recertification, links to add their info/picture to our Alumni page, and other options.

How do I get my picture on the CEP Alumni page?

Upon certification, you will gain access to the Alumni Portal tab. There, you can complete the form to have your info/picture added to the CEP Alumni page
